Martha Bernard & Michael Joviala
Sing + Move + Play: Discover Your Singing Voice and Natural Musicality
3:00pm - 6:00pm
Class Fee: $40
Are you secretly afraid to sing or intimidated by music theory? Or are you an experienced singer who would like to more fully connect your natural, deep feeling for rhythm and music to the way you sing? Find your natural voice and learn music theory in a fun, creative, and dynamic atmosphere that works to integrate mind, body and emotion. Martha Bernard and Michael Joviala will help you unlock your natural inner musician and find your personal voice using techniques from Brain Gym, the Alexander Technique and Dalcroze Eurhythmics.
Martha will explore topics such as breath support and how to uncover your natural instrument while freeing the body. We'll start by centering and releasing tension, then move on to the floor to release more deeply and work with natural full breathing. Vocal and movement play and exercises will help students discover the free use of their entire range.
Dalcroze Eurhythmics is the study of rhythm, pitch and harmony through creative movement and physical, vocal and instrumental improvisation. By experiencing the basic elements of music directly, participants are more fully able to bridge the gap that often occurs between music theory and artistic expression. Using these techniques, Michael Joviala will lead the group through a series of exercises and games requiring quick reaction, group improvisation and loosely structured movement to focus on various aspects of rhythm. This work will be directly applied to literature from the musical theater.
