The acting community can play a vital and irreplaceable role in confronting the climate crisis. Tim Guinee, actor, founder of The Climate Actors and leader in former Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, will host a presentation and discussion of the latest science regarding climate change, and the many reasons we have to be hopeful in the face of this emergency.

Tim Guinee is the founder of the Climate Actors and a leader in former Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. He has given climate change presentations all over the United States as well as in Canada and North Africa. He enjoys giving talks to oppositional and underserved audiences including to such diverse groups as conservative fire departments, Houston oil industry executives, and maximum security inmates. He serves on the leadership council of Riverkeeper, the board of the Ashokan Center (New York’s oldest center for environmental education), the board of Green Product Placement and the advisory board of the Climate Institute. Professionally, he is an actor and director. He has appeared in over 200 movies (including Sweet Land – the 1st carbon neutral independent feature film), mini-series and episodes of television and another couple hundred plays. Learn more.

Founding members of Spiderwoman Theater, Muriel Miguel and Gloria Miguel, discuss storyweaving—the process of unfolding a story’s dramatic structure over time—and how they have used this process throughout their many years of producing at the oldest feminist and Native American theater in the U.S. and Canada.

Gloria Miguel is Kuna/ Rappahannock. She studied drama at Oberlin College and is a founding member of Spiderwoman Theater. She has worked extensively in film and television. With Spiderwoman Theater, she has toured throughout Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Read more.

Muriel Miguel is a director, choreographer, playwright, actor and educator. She has directed almost all of Spiderwoman’s shows since their debut in 1976, in which time, they have written and produced over twenty original works for the theatre. Read more.

HB Studio will be closed December 21, 2019 through January 1, 2020. The Studio will re-open on Thursday, January 2, 2020. The Winter Term begins January 6, 2020, and runs through March 15, 2020.

A stage combat director and an intimacy director share notes about building a framework of consent and practice that supports actors to take risks, and to handle both intimate and violent staged interactions in their work. This talk will be preceded by a workshop for HB Studio Faculty on November 19th on using intimacy protocols in teaching and rehearsal.
Judi Lewis Ockler is an intimacy/fight director, variety performer, stunt performer, and teaching artist.  Credits include: HATEF**K (Adrienne Campbell-Holt, director; WP theater) UNDER THE OVERTURE (Gerard Alessandrini, director), A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM (Tony Speciale, director; Classic Stage). She is an Intimacy Director with Intimacy Directors International; she leads workshops in Intimacy for the Stage for actors and designers at Eugene O’Neil Theater Center, NYU Tisch, and The American Musical & Dramatic Academy, NYC.
Christian Kelly-Sordelet: Fight Director, Broadway: PICNIC, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S, WAITING FOR GODOT and NO MAN’S LAND, ECLIPSED SUNSET BOULEVARD. Off-Broadway: MASKED, SLIPPING, UNLOCK’D, THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS, KID VICTORY. Stunt Coordinator for: ALL MY CHILDREN, GUIDING LIGHT, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, SCHOOL SPIRITS, and KEVIN CAN WAIT. Christian assisted in: THE SNOW GEESE, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST TOUR: South Africa and Argentina. In FUERZA BRUTA, BEN HUR LIVE: ROME, AS YOU LIKE IT, COMEDY OF ERRORS, KING LEAR, JULIUS CEASER in Central Park. Christian has taught at: Rutgers, NYU, Yale, The New School, and Wagner. He is a resident fight director at Sante Fe Opera.

Maricela de la Luz Lights the World is a fanciful play by Academy-award nominated writer José Rivera. The story follows the adventures of Maricela and her brother Riccardo as they save the world from impending climate catastrophe, reminding audiences that the power to change the world lies within each of us. Directed by David Deblinger, co-founder of the iconic LAByrinth Theatre Company, and featuring an array of HB Alumni, we hope you can join us for this special holiday presentation! A FREE holiday cast party will take place on Friday night after the show, and FREE holiday cookies and cider will be served at the Saturday matinee.
