HB Studio’s Specialized Workshops offer focused, time-bound opportunities for artists to deepen specific skills, interrogate particular questions and engage with distinct practices that sit alongside, and sometimes outside of, our core class offerings. These workshops are designed for moments when an artist wants to go further. Further into a text, a technique, a methodology, a role or a way of working. They are often immersive, occasionally intensive and always intentional.
Led by distinguished teaching artists, Specialized Workshops respond to the evolving needs of the field. Some center a single playwright, movement vocabulary or acting approach. Others explore audition technique, voice, embodiment, professional practice or cross-disciplinary inquiry. Many are offered as short series or concentrated sessions, allowing artists to engage deeply without the commitment of a full term.
While each workshop has its own focus, all share a common ethos. Serious practice. Generous inquiry. Respect for the artist’s intelligence and lived experience.
In addition to our public offerings, HB Studio welcomes invitations to design and lead customized Master Classes. These can take place at HB Studio in New York City or be hosted by partner organizations, universities, festivals or cultural institutions across the United States and internationally. We also work with groups seeking to convene artists in their own spaces or home countries, tailoring each Master Class to the specific context, participants and artistic questions at hand.
