HB Studio wants you in our classrooms. In support of our students, we offer a variety of financial aid options to help artists just like you join our community and continue their acting journey. All attendees at HB studio, both new enrollees and continuing students, are eligible to apply for Financial Aid support. Please contact scholarships@hbstudio.org with any questions.
Work-Study–Studio Assistants
- Open to new and continuing students based on need, goals, and instructor recommendation or work sample.
- Pay for one course to receive a second course free in exchange for 2-6 hours/week of administrative, studio upkeep, or other duties.
- Complete hours before the term ends to maintain eligibility.
Work-Study–Key Students
- Open to continuing students based on need, goals, and instructor recommendation.
- Serve as studio monitors/teacher assistants.
- Receive free tuition for the class they key, but must enroll in and pay for a second class in the same term.
Scholarships
- Awarded to new and continuing students based on need, goals, and instructor recommendation or work sample.
- Provide a partial discount off one course (averaging $150; no full scholarships).
- Recipients must enroll by the first day of class and model strong discipline and attendance.
Application Rules & Policies
Submit only one application for one class per term. One application covers all three types of aid (Studio Assistants, Key Students & Scholarships).
Wait for Approval: Do not register or pay for the class before receiving a decision—pre-paid tuition is non-refundable and ineligible for financial aid.
Notification: Decisions are sent within one month of the application deadline. Contact scholarships@hbstudio.org if you haven’t been notified after 30 days.
Exclusions: Hagen Core, Hagen Summer Intensive, and other special programs have a separate financial aid application process
Materials & Submission Requirements
- All Students
- Upload current headshot & resume
- New Students
- New Acting Students: Link to a video audition with two contrasting 3-minute monologues and a brief a-capella song.
- New Playwriting Students: Upload up to 5 pages of writing.
- New Directing Students: Link to a portfolio of previous directing work.
- Returning Students
- Select an HB Teaching Artist to write a recommendation (selected directly within the application; we will contact the teacher for their recommendation).
