Austin Pendleton to teach “Directing for the Stage” this Spring

OBIE Award-winning director and celebrated actor Austin Pendleton launches a new class at HB Studio this Spring: “Directing for the Stage.” Pendleton, who has been teaching sought-after Scene Study classes at HB Studio for decades, will now share his directorial expertise with aspiring and established directors alike. The HB Artistic Council has selected the following six projects for the 2017 HB Residency Season:

Flight Over Wasteland
Lilya Lifanova & Hiroya Miura
(February/March) An experimental theater and film project by visual artist and director Liliya Lifanova in collaboration with composer Hiroya Miura. This duo comes together to create an adaptation of T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, reimagined and retold in a series of evocative tableaux vivants, choreographed gestures, actions, sculptural objects, and sound. Continue reading →

Fritz Weaver Memorial Service

HB notes with deepest sadness the passing of our dear friend and Board member, Fritz Weaver, on November 26, 2016. Our loving thoughts go out to the Oliver/Weaver family.

A memorial will be held at Symphony Space on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 6:30pm.

In remembering Fritz, we celebrate one of our finest actors; a splendid artist, true humanitarian; a great, generous, and gracious soul. For HB and its community, Fritz was steadfast in his advocacy and support. We are grateful to have known him, to have had his presence with us, and for the lasting power of his example.

Cindy Curtis Nelson Joins HB Studio Board of Directors

We are pleased to announce that Cindy Curtis Nelson has been appointed to the HB Studio Board of Directors!

Cindy is a leader in marketing strategy and innovation. She is a global brand and business builder, a tireless connector of brand experiences and digital platforms, and a consummate student of customer behavior. Cindy is a founding partner and Chief Strategist of Matter Worldwide, a marketing and innovation company; she is currently the Head of Brand Marketing for PGIM, the global investment management businesses of Prudential Financial Inc.; and is on the Board of Advisors for ad tech company Trion Interactive – a mobile video ad-serving platform. She lives in Tribeca with her husband and two digital native sons. Together with her extended family, they own and operate an historic cottage and boat rental business in the Adirondacks.
