Alex Hurt is an actor and teacher based in New York. He holds an MFA from NYU Tisch Graduate Acting and has built a career spanning Broadway, Off-Broadway, film, and television.
Most recently, Alex starred in the lead role in Joe Maggio’s feature film Before and After. On Broadway, he played Alexander Litvinenko opposite Michael Stuhlbarg in Peter Morgan’s Patriots. His New York theater credits also include The Wild Duck, directed by Simon Godwin; Continuity, directed by Rachel Chavkin; Scenes from a Marriage, directed by Ivo van Hove; Placebo, directed by Daniel Aukin; and Love, Love, Love, directed by Michael Mayer.
Some of his screen credits include She Said, Bonding, Sheriff Country, Homeland, Super Pumped, Billions, The Good Fight, and New Amsterdam. He was nominated for an Emmy for his lead performance in The Rehearsal.
Alex has trained with teachers including Bob Krakower, Larry Moss, Richard Feldman, the faculty of NYU Graduate Acting and many others. Through these different approaches, he has developed a practical, technical process for asking the questions that create a strong foundation from which the actor can ultimately let go, trust their preparation, and, in Richard Feldman’s words, “go before you’re ready.”
Alex began teaching after watching talented actors—including many of his closest friends—struggle to sustain their creative lives while navigating an often confusing and demanding profession. His teaching focuses on helping actors reconnect to their original impulse, simplify their process, and develop practical techniques for auditioning and working professionally without sacrificing spontaneity, curiosity, or joy.
