HB Resident Artist, Kaili Y. Turner presents Sheen the Musical

Sheen the Musical is a musical play based in the 1960’s, where a group of teens sing, dance and fight to try to find their way. Stuck between color lines, the greasers and what it means to be American, they experience friendship, romances and adventures. Sheen, the musical named after hair sheen, a product used by African Americans for decades is the answer to Grease you never knew you needed, but are damn sure glad you have!

Kaili Y. Turner (Creator/Writer/Director/Actor) is a Black Indigenous (enrolled member of Nipmuc Nation) comedian, actress, writer, producer, and puppeteer with a MFA at the Actors Studio Drama School. With a passion for storytelling and representation, Kaili creates content that’s relatable, funny, edgy and nuanced. Her moto: A spoon full of laughter helps the medicine go down, whether it’s overt or seems like just plain fun, there’s a message in her madness. Additionally, Kaili is an alumni of ABC/Disney Pilot Prep Program for Native Americans, SNL/Second City Scholarship, The Native American TV Writers Lab, Collective 5 Showrunners program. Michele Baldwin (Producer) is an American, Multi-Media Artist, Creator, Philanthropist and Overall Inspirer. Actor, Artist, Writer, Award Winning Producer/Filmmaker, Director, strives to inspire others to their excellence by being a fearless beacon of light and positivity. Michele’s work encompasses all aspects of the business: Film, TV, Theater, Internet and Zoom. A masterful Producer with an array of independent films, commercial and theater projects to the world. As an Actor, Michele has earned considerable IMDB credits, and has the stages of; MST, Second Stage Theatre, 59E59, EST and Cherry Lane Theater. She is presently in post-production with a documentary film where she serves as creator, writer and Executive Producer. Xavier Rodney (Producer) is a SAG-AFTRA, Brooklyn born and raised Actor and I’m interested in hearing more about this production! I most recently played JT on HULU’s WU-TANG. I am the Co-founder of the Brooklyn-based sketch comedy group, TO KAREN, WITH LOVE. Improv, comedy and dramatic storytelling are all well within my wheelhouse. Damany Mathis (Music Director) American actor, musician, and writer Damany Mathis has experience on all of the major platforms. Before making a splash in the music industry in 2010 as a member of the independent music collective DD172/BluRoc Records, his big-screen debut would come first. By using the moniker Rugz D. Bewler or BWLR, Damany was able to tour and work with well-known industry heavyweights. Damany has self-produced seven studio albums, numerous writing compilations, and numerous other works. He has also worked as a curator and project manager for museum design initiatives that focus on the arts.

RJ Wiliams (Book Writer/Actor) is a Dallas born and New York trained improvisor. He performs with hip hop comedy team North Coast and the musical improv team Baby Wants Candy. He has performed on Broadway and headlined festivals around the US. RJ also performs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with the show “Shamilton”. RJ is featured on the North Coast Podcast, available on Spotify and Apple Podcast. RJ is not good at writing bios, so RJ pretends he is The Rock when typing bios and says RJ a lot.

Kalynn Chambers is a North Carolina native currently living in Brooklyn, NY. She is an actor, mwriter, and improvisor. She completed the Saturday Night Live/Peoples Improv Theater Scholarship Program and was recognized as an Exceptional Student at the Terry Knickerbocker Acting Studio for her commitment to excellence in the craft of acting. Kalynn was a Comedy Writing Intern for Amanda Seales’ Smart, Funny, and Black. She has studied improv at the Washington Improv Theater and sketch at The PIT. Amber Bloom (Actor) is excited to be back on the stage again after a Covid drought. Credits include: Broadway Bares, Erotic Broadway, and I’ll Say She is: The lost Marx Brothers Musical, among others. She is a founding member of the sketch Comedy group To Karen With Love, and has been seen on the small screen on Oxygen and ID channels. She wants to thank Kaili for bringing her on this project’s journey!

Aaron LaRoche (Actor) is a comedian/writer born in MA and now residing in New York. He has trained at UCB, The PIT, and Armory. He can be seen performing with Branded Silk and as a cast member of The Art Of Killing It, an immersive murder mystery. He is also a soon to be graduate of the David Lynch Screenwriting Program

Alexis Braxton (Actor) is an actress and singer from Pennsylvania. Right before the Covid-19 shutdown in 2020, Alexis played the lead role of Olivia Pope in the parody musical Scandusical. Other stage work includes performing with the sketch comedy groups To Karen, With Love, The Black Pantherettes, and Golden Gals, In the commercial world, she’s worked with brands including Jimmy John’s, TJMaxx, and Uber. When she’s not on her quest to being “booked and busy,” Alexis enjoys working out, taking tap dancing lessons, thrift shopping, and obsessing over her hair.

Myriam Moss is a Choreographer, Actor, Singer, Writer, and ultimate creative. Brooklyn native, Myriam is skilled in the arts, she has danced and taught Salsa, Latin Dance, Hip-Hop, Chicago-Stepping, Jazz and more. The former face of NYC Shape Up, with billboards to inspire the community to live a healthy and fit lifestyle while providing free Dance Fitness classes from the youth to senior adults. Seen in various stage and film productions, sketch comedy shows, and member of sketch teams, To Karen, With Love, Rock The Bells, and American Candy. She was recently seen at Rockwood Music Hall singing with the band, Impossible Kings. Lastly, you may have seen a few props and costumes created by her as she can do that too and have.

HB Studio is dedicated to training and practice for the theater, and seeks to provide a commerce-free environment for the nurturing and growth of theater artists. In pursuit of this goal, HB offers five one-week Rehearsal Space Residencies each year for the development of creative projects. The HB Rehearsal Space Residency is an opportunity for practicing theater artists to collaborate on experimental projects, develop new work, and share workshop presentations among peers and colleagues, for constructive critical feedback and mutual growth. The Rehearsal Space Residency is an open opportunity; you do not have to be affiliated with HB Studio to apply.
