HB Playwrights Theatre
124 Bank Street, New York

HB Studio hosts a conversation with Cherry Lane Alternative Founding Artistic Director Angelina Fiordellisi, Managing Director/Cherry Lane Theatre historian Mary Geerlof, and playwrights of the Cherry Lane Mentor Project: Anton DudleyDavid Henry HwangLisa Ramirez, and Alfred Uhry. Moderated by Pat Golden.

Founded in 1923 as the Cherry Lane Playhouse, the Cherry Lane Theatre marks its 100th anniversary this year. Fiordellisi has recently passed the theatre’s torch to A24, the indie film company that produced Everything Everywhere All at Once and Moonlight. The panel will reflect on the Cherry Lane’s remarkable history as a Greenwich Village home for new plays and playwrights, on the CLT Mentor Project, the current state of Off-Broadway, and the future we can imagine for the theater from here.

In partnership with The Village Trip Festival.

This program is made possible with support from the Noël Coward Foundation, as part of our series “A Great and Exciting Place”: HB celebrates the Theatrical Heritage of Greenwich Village.
“I remembered the beauty of New York at night, viewed not from a smart penthouse on Park Avenue, but from a crowded seat in Washington Square. And it seemed, in spite of its hardness, and irritating, noisy efficiency, a great and exciting place.”
-Noël Coward, on his first trip to New York
HB Studio’s programs are supported in part by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council, and many generous supporters.
