Serabian- Acting the Song (Part A)- Summer Term 2020

Online Teaching Statement from Lorraine Serabian: “Studying virtually adds a new perspective of intimacy for the actor/singer and an added dimension to the work. Our actors find this challenging and very satisfying. Yes, it is possible to create that authentic connection with the music and the storytelling in a virtual setting. Actors as far as Florida and other states and countries as far as Japan and Switzerland have risen to the challenge. What a wonderful opportunity for local as well as international singers to join us in this new venture. Our singers are flourishing through the challenge and continue to find ways to discover new avenues of authenticity and communication working in a safe virtual space. Singers are given permission to explore the unlimited possibilities of this relatively new mode of study.

“The singer has the option of working on self-chosen or teacher-assigned music from all venues and genres — Broadway, Opera, Cabaret, Pop, R&B, etc. My teaching incorporates the basic Hagen approach to the storytelling with new and ever-emerging techniques to find truth and authenticity in the work.

“I welcome questions to my HB Studio email address, lserabian@hbstudio.org, as this is a relatively new mode of study.”
