Presented by Alex Ratner –
Held in person (review requirements for in-person activity):
Put your audition “book” to the test with this five-week intensive dedicated to musical theater audition repertoire and etiquette. Led by composer, music director and arranger Alex Ratner, each week focuses on a different era/style of musical theater — from the Golden Age through contemporary pop/rock — as Alex coaches students on their current audition selections and how to make an impression in one minute or less.
Students are expected to prepare two 32-bar audition pieces (~1 minute long each) OR one full-length song fitting the criteria of each week’s era/style (to be announced the week prior), and bring piano/vocal sheet music for each song.
FOR THE FIRST DAY: Participants should bring sheet music for their strongest current 1-2 audition cuts (one song is fine, two is preferable) for the first session, when Alex will get to know everyone’s vocal ranges and musical interests. Any songs will work, from musicals or not. Students need not be able to read music, but everyone should be prepared to sing each week.
