Monologues and Auditions for Teens and Preteens

This workshop will be held online via Zoom conferencing

Presented by Claudia Terry

Monologues and Auditions for Teens and Preteens is a five-session workshop for acting students (ages 11-17) interested in developing their monologue skills for audition and performance. This workshop will provide excellent preparation for college and high school admissions auditions, as well as practice for monologues in any performance or rehearsal.

We will focus on the preparation of two contrasting monologues, the common requirement for auditions. We will take you through the process of choosing monologues and crafting dynamic monologue performances, with a focus on characterization, finding the beats, using the space effectively, and making strong, specific, meaningful connections to the language and circumstances of the play. The workshop will leave you prepared to show up to the audition room confident and ready.

Those who are not auditioning but would like to practice monologues for performance are welcomed and encouraged to join as well.

For the first day of class: It is suggested that you come on the first day with one or two monologues selected. Monologues must be selected from plays, not monologue books nor TV nor film.
